Below is a collection of some of the most frequently asked questions concerning East Kellogg. If you have additional questions, you can contact the program by using the message fields at the bottom of the page or by emailing eastkellogg@ksdotike.org.

This project is in the early stages of design. KDOT has developed a preliminary alignment for the project along East Kellogg, shown here on project website. Since we are in the environmental phase, we are assessing the corridor for the impacts, including impact on properties, that an alignment may have. There will be opportunities for public engagement during the environmental process to share the status of the project and gain feedback from the public. Another public meeting will be held in late fall 2022 to share more information.

As part of the environmental study process, KDOT will conduct noise modeling to determine if noise walls or barriers are needed along the corridor (specifically in residential neighborhoods and other areas that may be sensitive to noise such as schools, places of worship or medical facilities). The noise modeling will follow Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) protocols, use an FHWA-approved model and follow the KDOT Noise Policy. The environmental assessment is planned to have a completion date of January 2023, so we will know more and hold another public meeting in late fall 2022 to share more information.

If the modeling determines that areas along the proposed project would be subject to traffic noise levels that exceed FHWA noise criteria or the traffic noise level substantially increases with the project over what the levels are determined to be today, KDOT would look at the feasibility and reasonableness of providing noise barriers to reduce traffic noise levels for adjacent properties. If a barrier is determined to be reasonable and feasible, the property owners that would benefit from the construction of the noise barriers would be given the opportunity to provide their input on whether they are constructed or not.

At this stage of the project, the limits and impact are not yet defined. The environmental assessment is planned to have a completion date of January 2023, so we will know more and hold another public meeting in late fall 2022 to share more information. If right of way needs to be acquired for the project, information on KDOT’s acquisition process can be found online here.

There will be disruptions to traffic during construction, but by knowing the concerns of the community, experiences from previous projects along the corridor and the expertise of the progressive design build team we will work to limit the disruptions. We are in the early stage of design. Knowing your concerns and others in the community will help KDOT and their staff adjust and come up with the best possible plan. It is KDOT’s goal to minimize project impacts and come up with the best overall solution for the community and the traveling public.

A public meeting was held on May 26, 2022. Here is the link with the information from that meeting as well as the display boards and handout. Another public meeting will be held in late fall 2022 to share more information.

This project is in the early stages of design. Since we are in the environmental phase, we are assessing the corridor for the impacts that an alignment may have, including floodplains, wetlands, wildlife habitat, etc. At this stage of the project, the limits and impact are not yet defined. The environmental assessment is planned to have a completion date of January 2023, so we will know more and hold another public meeting in late fall 2022 to share more information.

This project is in the early stages of design and KDOT is seeking feedback from the community regarding the design concept. The online public meeting display boards and handout have concepts and illustrations to show this better. Here is the link to the main public meeting webpage. There will be another public meeting in late fall 2022 to share more information.
